What do production chains have to do with my community?
So, how do chains of production affect you and the community you live in?
For one thing, the production chains of primary industries employ a huge number of people in all parts of the chain - from the very beginning when the farmer is growing crops, to the very end where the shop assistant is selling you a muffin. Primary industries themselves provide approximately 30-40 per cent of the employment in NSW regional areas.
Not only that, but many things around the community are built with the products of primary industries. Every house you see will have been created using raw materials sent through production chains, just like the clothes you wear and the food you eat.
To measure the improvement of quality of life that has been brought about by these industries would be impossible, but it is easy to see in everyday life just how much we rely on these chains of production. Without them, so many things we take for granted would simply not be available for us to enjoy.
